During our two year research, we discovered rare, as yet unseen material from the Rovinas’ estate. This is an archive film that will introduce the viewers to a “fairytale” of women with powerful stage personas. At the same time, we’ll peel away these layers to reach the personal and the intimate. These will create an emotional experience for the viewers that will take them into the thick of the complex relationship between Hanna and Ilana. Their beauty and glamor correspond in the story with the letdowns, the losses and the complexity that the stage introduced into their lives.  The stills photos of Hanna Rovina are very avant-garde, powerful and theatrical. The film will work with the emotion embedded in the archive and will create a series of images that generate motion, a new observation from within the worlds of expressive cinema. The connections will provide an emotional expression to the mother hovering over the theater and over Ilana, her daughter. The editing narrative will create emotional connections between the songs and the textual layer.
